Thanks for the memories Allen, you gave us true emotions, watching you play was like having high voltage running through our bodies.
The show is always guaranteed when two superstar like Federer and Djokovic clash on a tennis court
After the big win against Novak Djokovic in the semifinals – the first in the last four matches-, Federer will play against Tomas Berdych in Dubai’s final.
It will be the 18th match between them, Federer lead the series 11-6, but Berdych took the last two winning in the Us Open quarterfinal in 2012 and in Dubai semifinal last year.
They’re both having a good first part of season, Berdych will play his second straight final, after that one week ago triumphed in Rotterdam, and he will try to set his first back to back title since 2004, when he won two Challenger tournaments in consecutive weeks. Winning in Rotterdam last week made him break a 16 months wait since his last title, and now seems that he doesn’t wanna stop.
Federer is still chasing the first crown of the season, he lost in Brisbane final against Lleyton Hewitt and then reached the Australian Open semifinals. In Dubai he will play the second final in three tournaments played so far. But he doesn’t win since the Halle tournament played last year, two weeks before Wimbledon. Way too much time for Mr. Grand Slam.
Tomorrow’s final will give us two players in great shape, who started the season with great motivations, Berdych wants to prove that he can compete at the same level of the best players in the world, and Federer, after the worst year of his career, wants to get back where he belongs.
Today in Dubai semifinals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will cash, for another chapter of one great rivalry that started eight years ago.
The first meeting between them was in Montecarlo, in 2006, at the first round. At that time Roger Federer was the world n.1 and Novak Djokovic was just a young talented guy, who was making his way in the world of tennis, he was ranked 67.
Federer won that match 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, and then advanced all the way up to the final where he lost to Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic lost all the first four meetings against Federer, including the first clash in a Grand Slam tournament, which was during the 2007 Australian Open, in the 4th round, Federer was still leading the ranking while Djokovic climbed until the 15th place.
Later that year Djokovic won his first match against Federer, in the ATP Master Series in Montreal, Canada. They met in the final, Djokovic was already the world n.4 and won 7-6(2), 2-6, 7-6(2).
Federer has a four games winning streak record, he has won the first four meeting ever, twice in 2006 (Montecarlo and Davis Cup), and twice in 2007 (Australian Open and Dubai).
Djokovic has a winning streak record of three, but he was be able to set it for three times:
Federer leads the head to head series 16-15, but Djokovic prevailed in the last three and in seven of the last ten meetings. During their careers they have played each other in eight finals winning four each one.
