It’s a while that we’ve heard about the possibility of a trade involving Carmelo Anthony and the Chicago Bulls.
Now that the Bulls has sent Luol Deng to Cleveland they have created some salary room which can make more possible this trade.
But does it would be good for both parts? and what about the Knicks?
The trade would be good for the Chicago Bulls, they would add one of the best scorer in the league to a team that is actually the worst in scoring, averaging just 93 points per game. Anthony (25,1 ppg in his career) could be the offensive leader of a team that doesn’t have a real scorer (waiting for D-Rose), but a lot of good players who are the perfect backup for a star like Melo.
Even Derrick Rose would gain a lot in this scenario. When he will back on the court he wouldn’t be obligated to take the leading of the team since the first game, he could play less minutes at first, and save his knees from the stress of a long season. Plus, Rose seems to be the perfect superstar for playing with another superstar, he doesn’t have to drop 25 points night after night, he could share the responsibility with Melo, and having both of them on the court at the same time would create more space for the other players, and, for example, someone like Noah could be free to do what he does better, defense, rebounds and dropping a lot of energy on the court.
One of the few question marks about this trade would be on the defensive side. Melo would fill the space left free by Deng, but he’s not as good as him in defense. But the Chicago Bulls are a team who works together while they defend, they do a great job helping each other, and some of Melo’s weakness could be covered by his teammates.Anthony could have the chance to play for a great coach like Thibodeau, who would force him to improve his D-game. Even in a bad season like this the Bulls are ranked 2nd for opponent point, they allow just 93 ppg.
Chicago is a big market, is an important basketball city, so Anthony could play in a place who puts him under the spotlights, since Michael Jordan landend in Chicago in 1984 every one knows what happens in the Wind city.
With him and Derrick Rose Chicago would get the two superstars who seem needed to win a championship, or at least to compete for it.Add to the equation players like Noah,Gibson,Butler,Augustin,(more difficoult to see Boozer in Chicago’s jersey next year) maybe some good draft pick and some free agent who can be attracted by the prospective to play in a contender and the Bulls will turn themselves from a .455 winning team into a serious candidate to be at least a huge outsider.
And the what about the New york Knicks? They started this season full of hopes, after the good last season, but something went wrong, JR Smith is not the player who we were used to see last year, Stoudemire is struggling to get back his old shape, Martin,Chandler, Metta World Peace they all are good players but they’re not 25 years old anymore. What the Knicks needs most is a plan, a plan for the future, they can’t collect huge contracts on huge contracts, they have to rebuild everything, keeping some of their actual players (i’m impressed by Tim Hardaway Jr.),adding some players that maybe doesn’t have a big name but that can be useful.Maybe they’ll have to deal with a couple of poor season but at the end -if they act wisely- they could back where the New york Knicks belongs.
Say thanks and goodbye to Carmelo Anthony could be a though but needed first step.
