In 1998 Serena Williams made her debut in the Australian Open. At that time she was ranked 56th, and the draw placed on her way the number 6 seed Irina Spirlea.
Serena went ahead for 5-3 in the first set but blew three set points and lost the tiebreak 7-5. Despite her young age -she was 16 at that time- Serena came back strongly, helped by her service she left just 4 games to Spirlea and won the match 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.
At the second round she face her sister Venus, in the first match between them,and lost 7-6(4),6-1.
That young girl, with those strange hair has done a lot since those days, and she turned herself into one of the most dominant players in tennis history.
