After 16 months Thomas Berdych wins an Atp tournament, he takes the title in Rotterdam beating Marin Cilic in straight set. Berdych didn’t win a title since Stockholm 2012, when he won against Tsonga. Last year Berdych played three finals loosing them all, in Marseille against Tsonga, in Dubai against Djokovic and in Bangkok against Raonic.
Thanks to yesterday’s success Berdych will rise at #6 in the Atp Rankings.
On the other side of the world, in Memphis, Nishikori set his back to back title winning against Karlovic 6-4, 7-6(0), becoming the first player to win in Memphis for two years in a row since Tommy Haas in 2006 and 2007. Nishikori has a 4-2 in title matches, he has won twice in Memphis (2013, 2014), in Tokyo in 2011, and in Deltray Beach in 2008. The two matches lost were in Basel and Houston, both in 2011.
David Ferrer set a three-peat in Buenos Aires defeating Fabio Fognini 6-4, 6-3. It’s the 21st Atp title for Ferrer, the first this year. It’s 11th title on clay court for Ferrer that rise at the third place in this special list, sharing the place with Robredo, just one title behind Nicola Almagro at 12 and far away from Rafa Nadal at 42.
